Massachusetts trio Tulsa make big rock shrouded in a ton of heavenly reverb with fantastic lead vocals. They are at least cousins to My Morning Jacket, if not outright brothers. It's music where the lyrics are almost incidental to the overall appeal-- the real power comes from the way the syllables sound when they’re stretched into long, melodic phrases with a bit of subtle close harmony. On "Mass", the lead guitar steps out front with two well-articulated solos, and the soaring chorus is balanced by a short passage where the drums drop out and we’re just left with the voice and the echoing chords. All in all, they are off to an impressive start.
