Video: The Twilight Sad: "And She Would Darken the Memory" (Live at the Pitchfork Music Festival)
Scotland's the Twilight Sad played first on Saturday at this year's Pitchfork Music Festival. On the one hand, they're not exactly the kind of band you usually see just after noon-- darkly intense and brooding, if noisy as all get-out. But having seen them a few months before at SXSW, I can tell you that their energy level and focus were much stronger at this early hour (which might have had something to do with less time for drinking ale before going on). Here they offer "And She Would Darken the Memory", a track that appeared both on their early EP and later full-length. Singer James Graham looks completely inside the music, as he faces the band with the audience over his shoulder, screams periodically off-mic, and rolls his eyes back into his head. (Thanks again to Optimus).
