"The Men Who Live Upstairs"

Video: The Most Serene Republic: "The Men Who Live Upstairs"

This expensive-looking, George Vale-directed video for one of Ontario's very large bands finds the group performing in a church where everyone is clad in Victorian garb. The song begins with a tendril of guitar distortion and quickly balloons into a gargantuan mass of voices, guitars, strings, pianos, crashing drums, and god knows what else. The throng begins to freak out due to the volume (perfectly understandable), and then they rush the exits as the camera cuts to fleshy close-ups of blood-red hands. That all this OTT-ness happens in just over three minutes is sorta amazing.
