Video: Ida Maria: "Oh My God"
Mixing Katrina & the Waves effervescence with Janis Joplin wails, Ida Maria has been closing shows with "Oh My God" for a good while now. The song ended her crackerjack set at the Øya Festival as well as her blogged-about performance at CMJ, and now it finally gets a video. The stop-motion technique creates a stuttering effect that a) makes it seem like Ida Maria never blinks, but b) feeds the song's manic power-pop-punk urgency. There's a superior demo version streaming on her MySpace page, but this version, re-recorded for her upcoming debut album, still sounds urgently defiant. "You think I'm in control oh my GOD!" Ida Maria sings, finding real power in powerlessness.
