Video Premiere: Fuck Buttons: "Bright Tomorrow"

Bristol-based noisy ambient duo Fuck Buttons don't fuck around. We already put "Bright Tomorrow" on repeat, praising the new 7" picture disc's A-side as "an ecstatic hybrid of Wolf Eyes' or Prurient's noise, Boris' blissed-out moments, and Nathan Fake's pastoral techno... as vivid here as it is violent." The video for the track goes for "vivid" first-- watch closely, maan, you can see the clouds moving. It fits Fuck Buttons' sound that the camera is looking upward, toward the sky, rather than merely, um, shoegazing.

The clouds turn colors, changing them up in time with music, and new visual elements-- streaks of bright city lights, followed eventually by an actual city-- join one by one as new sonic textures enter into the recording. When "Bright Tomorrow" goes, as we originally put it, "supernova", the once-peaceful sky becomes an inferno, and all of a sudden there are fireballs licking hungrily across the tall buildings and helpless pigeons. For a moment it seems as if it might all fall down... but then the flames, in the clip and in the music, subside. Fuck Buttons' next visual project could involve making us all stare into the sun, and the contrast between sublime beauty and unfathomable destructive power would be no less apt.
