New Music: The Breeders: "We're Gonna Rise" [Stream]

"New Breeders song," comes the IM from managing editor Mark Richardson. "Like brand new." Notice how casual he is, because others of us have a tougher time staying nonchalant about something as exciting (and nostalgia-inducing) as A BRAND NEW BREEDERS SONG, MOTHERFUCKERS. As the news team is no doubt telling you while I type this, Kim Deal's beloved post-Pixies band the Breeders are following the lead of Deal's, um, pre-post-Pixies band the Pixies and reuniting. And although Frank Black has been talking new Pixies album, this time there's definitely a full-length on the way. "We're Gonna Rise", from forthcoming Breeders LP Mountain Battles, is a slower song, Deal's warm voice echoing out over winding guitar lines as the drums keep waltz time. We'll leave it to you to decide whether that's worth losing your cool over, but with last splash Title TK already five years old, it's been a long time coming.
