We've heard a lot of "Be My Baby" beats lately. We've also heard a lot of nu-French Touch disco aiming for the effortless-sounding global dominance of "One More Time". The latest track to sneak out from Melbourne, Australia-based Cut Copy's Tim Goldsworthy-produced sophomore album doesn't go bum, bum-bum-- doesn't fuck with overt Auto-Tune, either-- but it does find frontman Dan Whitford singing, "Be my baby/ One more time." Taken from the trio's forthcoming In Ghost Colours, "Lights & Music (Radio Edit)" has more in common with Daft Punk-ers than faux-Ronettes, backing Whitford's tenor with strobe-like synths, a punchy bass groove, and steady four-on-the-floor kicks. And oohing backing vox, and handclaps.

All that's left here of the Walkmen-like guitar roar of another track expected to be on the album, the rock-oriented "So Haunted", are some jagged disco-punk guitars on the breakdown. "Lights & Music" sounds more like a return to the catchy, club-oriented synth-pop (if not the saxophone solo) of fellow In Ghost Colours cut "Hearts on Fire", which is almost a year old on the band's MySpace now. Not a bad thing. Less lights, more music, please.
