New Music: Excepter: "Kill People" [MP3]
Don't Excepter know there's a war on? Fresh off a 12" called "'Burgers", which may or may not be a comment on modern cannibalism, the next track to hit the internet from the dubby Brooklyn improv group's soon-to-be-released fourth album is "guns don't kill people, people kill people", except without the guns and the not-killing-people. Well, guns, sort of: The first words we hear on "Kill People" are "guns and roses," followed by the sound of a bottle being uncorked. Groans, moans, shouts, howls, murmurs, constipated grunts, and no-voicebox pharyngeal fricatives, male and female, all bounce around the scene of the killing, changing words and shapes over a murky two-note bass line. "Kill, kill, kill," we're told-- the lo-fi beat marching us there, the buzzsawing distorted synths cutting through the bones. If these dudes ever try to bring toothpaste onto an airplane in bigger than a three-ounce container, this country is totally screwed.
