New Music: The Mars Volta: "Birthday" (Sugarcubes cover) [Stream]

Before unleashing Bedlam, the Mars Volta must've wanted to have a little something to celebrate. They've posted a new track, "Birthday", as an exclusive stream over at Amazon. Last time you were blowing out the candles, if you wished for a midtempo psych track with squiggly electronics, ferocious drumming, and a falsetto vocal, well congratulations, your wish just came true. "Birthday" comes as the Volta continue to add tour dates and get ready for the release later this month of fourth album The Bedlam in Goliath. Costumes were apparently required for the band's New Year's Eve gig, but if there's a birthday party coming up, somebody left me off the Evite. I'm hurt, guys.
