Video: The Futureheads: "The Beginning of the Twist"
Let's twist again, like we did last week. On Friday, we posted "The Beginning of the Twist", from the Futureheads' forthcoming third LP This Is Not the World. This description still stands: "Like previously posted new Futureheads track 'Broke Up the Time', this song from the follow-up to News and Tributes sounds a lot like the Sunderland, UK band's earlier ones, with jerky, shifting rhythms, taut new-wave guitars, and whoa-oh backing vocals. 'I can feel it coming, the beginning of the twist,' they repeat, and as the song eventually careens into a drums-and-vox breakdown before rest of the instruments pile in again, the chorus becomes a sort of incantation-- like, say, 'Hounds of love are calling.'"
The Futureheads have now posted a video for the track-- one that playfully demystifies the whole video-making process. The band is shown both against a green-screen background and walking amidst sketches and storyboards or in various far-flung locales, all enabled by the green-screen process. Bow-tied lead singer Barry Hyde can be seen getting makeup applied. Near the end, the Futureheads are caught up in a flurry of hastily drawn images, as the storyboard artists wield their pens and pencils right in the group members' midst. Around and around, we go, again.
