New Music: Love Is All: "New Beginnings (rough)" [Stream]

The band too good to end Nine Times That Same Song at nine songs weren't too good to hold us over with a remix album. They're still just good enough to prep for their sophomore LP with a rough demo called "New Beginnings". Lo-fi Swedish popsters Love Is All have posted that track and another new, as-yet-untitled song to their MySpace, and turns out they're not through skewering (and exploiting) the clichés of a bazillion silly pop songs about young love. Josephine Olausson's Slits-cut shouts still err on the side of unintelligibility, but this time she sounds as fed up with being too clever for stupid Saturday night hook-ups as she is with stupid Saturday night hook-ups. "In a taxi going home/ Far too early on my own," she and guitarist Nicholaus Sparding yell at each other, as if their former band Girlfrendo's underrated "First Kiss Feelings vs. Everyday Sensations" had gone sour before the first pick-up line, after the too-many-th whiskey sour. Sparding's guitar and Johan Lindwall's bass are urgent and riotous, led by Fredrik Eriksson's descending saxophone runs and some out-of-control keyboard swipes (presumably by new member Åke), with handclaps and drummer Markus Görsch's chaotic thumps underneath. Rough's how we like 'em; make out, fall out, make up? Too easy, let's start over.
