The name of Casey Dienel's band puts you in a certain frame of mind: White Hinterland, sounds like a treeless, snow-covered place where you can see all the way to the horizon. As she explains to "Fair Game" host Faith Salie, the name refers to a coastal lowland area like the place she was raised in New England. But for all its stark connotations, White Hinterland's music is lively and kinetic, as demonstrated here on the jazzy "Dream of Plum Trees". Live versions of this track and three other tunes from the forthcoming Phylactery Factory, along with more chitchat, are available for download from "Fair Game".
