Videos: The Raveonettes: "Aly, Walk With Me" / "Black/White"
A twofer from New York-based Danish duo the Raveonettes. The close-harmonizing noise-poppers' newest video is for "Aly, Walk With Me", the opening track from new album Lust Lust Lust. Directed by OhhMaryMary, the clip is as dark yet cartoonish as the distortion-laden song in question, showing the group's Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo walking-- in bobble-headed paper-doll form-- against a starry night sky and a cityscape representing the city mentioned in the lyrics (Portland). After lots of walking, Foo gets some Vishnu arms on, and then butterfly wings, flanked by some skeletons. Whoever Aly is, she might be better off walking alone. (via Subterranean)
A video is also up for "Black/White", a song the Raveonettes recorded for Sound of Color, a Gap-commissioned project where the duo, Dntel, Swizz Beatz, and others were each assigned different colors to write songs about. Directors then made videos for the songs. The "Black/White" clip, helmed by Chris Do (Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy", and, oh goodie, Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl") is appropriately fixated on light and shadow, and of course, shot in black-and-white. Scene after scenes goes by-- a wolf chasing a rabbit, a duck crying, a boy and girl sitting glumly on a seesaw-- as Foo affectlessly intones, "Yeah, yeah, yeah," over bass-driven garage-rock backing.
