Though they receive their share of comparisons to Portland homeboy Stephen Malkmus' former band, Blitzen Trapper approach country music, at least, from a different angle, inhabiting the genre rather than bending it to fit their aesthetic. "Stolen Shoes", a new track from the group's second Daytrotter Session (the first was in September), illustrates this point rather well, the fingerpicked acoustic guitar, wisps of pedal steel, and warm harmonies bringing to mind the dabblers' sincerity of, say, Workingman's-era Dead. Two other new songs and a Wild Mountain Nation track round out the set.
