Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson? That's my name, too. The Mr. Robinson in question, however, is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter who hails from Oregon and now resides in (where else?) Brooklyn. He began recording his (what else?) self-titled debut in 2006 with help from Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear of Grizzly Bear; TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone and fellow Grizzly man Dan Rossen also added overdubs. The album's first single, "Buriedfed", lives up to those impressive connections, pouring a woodsy, deceptively upbeat folk song through the damp, woozy atmospherics of Horn of Plenty. The proper setting could be a rowdy bar as easily as that record's quiet bedroom.

"This is my last song about myself," Robinson begins, casually enough, in disorienting multi-track. His delivery goes back and forth from the all-American twang and chuckling, rapidfire wordplay of Josh Ritter to the sardonic, strangled shouts of Win Butler or Conor Oberst. The guitars build from their campfire beginnings to ragged, searing squeals, backed by pirouetting, wordless backing vocals and punchy drumming by Grizzly's Bear. Though the mood is celebratory, the lyrics are dominated by illness and death: "your friend who's a real yo-yo, and she's always cryin', and no one knows why", a man who shoots his wife, alcohol, Robinson's own imagined burial, alcohol again. "I might just be becoming someone else instead," Robinson concludes. Hey, there goes (who else?) Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson.
