"We Both Go Down Together" (Live in Portland, Ore.)

Video: Colin Meloy: "We Both Go Down Together" (Live in Portland, Ore.)

"We'll start with this, 'cause this is the obvious one," the Decemberists' Colin Meloy announces before playing "We Both Go Down Together" in this video of a performance at Portland's Jackpot Records. Well, it was obvious he was going to play this eventually, anyway. The star-crossed lovers' ballad from 2005's Picaresque is a staple of Meloy's repertoire, appearing on Meloy's forthcoming live solo album as well as the Decemberists' iTunes-only Live from SoHo EP and radio station comp Live at KEXP Volume 2. Shot by Kill Rock Stars, this clip shows an intimate rendition of the song from multiple, close-up angles, and you know what? Not only is it still a good song, but Meloy appears to have pretty healthy teeth and gums.

[a similar version appears on Colin Meloy Sings Live!; due 04/08/08 on Kill Rock Stars]
