Every heartbeat gets more literal in this cover of Robyn's Kleerup-produced overseas hit "With Every Heartbeat". Hot Chip associate Grovesnor ditches the equally emphasized beats of the original for a syncopated pulse not too different from what your doctor must hear through his stethoscope, assuming you can remember the last time you went to the doctor (I think I can...). Although not on par with the heartbreaking original, nor the smooth electro-soul of Grovesnor's "Nitemoves", this laid-back take is still an improvement on the treacly adult-contemporary version by the otherwise oft-underrated Girls Aloud. Grovesnor gives a mournful, muted rendition, IDM-esque beats bouncing everywhere like rubber balls, while the regret evident in Grovesnor guy Rob Smoughton's understated vocal puts the lie to the words, "I don't look back."
