Not to compare Spoon to that kid you knew in high school who thought everything with an acoustic guitar was country, but... Remember that kid you knew in high school who thought everything with an acoustic guitar was country? Austin indie-rockers Britt Daniel & co. have posted a demo of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga's blue-eyed Motown stab "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" on their website, and this one's labeled as a "country" version. It's only country, however, in the way that, say, Wilco debut A.M. was country. That is, it has midtempo acoustic guitar strums, manly harmonies, and very little swing in its step. By the end, we've fast-forwarded to Summerteeth for some Beach Boys woo-ohh-oohing. While it's no match for the horn- and bass-heavy album version, this "Cherry Bomb" demo is still a revelatory look at how one Gax5 song came together in the studio. Life can be so fair: Spoon will be uploading new mp3s to their site every month. Let it go on and on.
