Pitchfork.tv: Architecture in Helsinki: "Like It or Not" [Video Premiere]
Architecture in Helsinki put the lions next to the coconuts in the tropical setting of their new video for "Like It or Not", originally from last year's Places Like This (and also the title track of a forthcoming EP). No wonder they chose sunny Spanish islander El Guincho to handle the remix. But what makes this clip a pretty good fit for the Australian collective's many-splendored indie-pop isn't so much its pink flamingos, angry monkeys, or decapitated table-tennis players as the medium it uses. This thing is animated from, yes, cross-stitching, weaving together brightly colored threads the way the group can at their hyperactive best. While Rubik's Cube hot air balloons ascend to the pineapple clouds, Architecture in Helsinki sing, over cheerful "Good Lovin'" guitar chords, about how their mom thinks you've got it going on. Maybe she's the one who stitched you this video, then.
