Pitchfork.tv: April 18: High Places / Vampire Weekend / Joe Strummer / Boris
Today's episode of Pitchfork.tv's "Pitchfork Live" caught the High Places duo of Rob Barber and Mary Pearson working their peculiar and intoxicating indie-pop/dub/whatza alchemy onstage at the Market Hotel in Bushwick, Brooklyn. God only knows what all is in the table full of gear and how long it takes to plug everything in, but the synths, sequencers, and objects hooked to contact microphones make for a glorious Technicolor racket beneath Pearson's soft, deadpan vocals (full disclosure: Pearson is the sister of a former Pitchfork employee).
We also wanted to hit a few of the week's highlights, starting with these three videos from Vampire Weekend's "Secret Session" at Columbia University, which found the band fleshing out three of their catchiest songs with a string section. A few people e-mailed wondering where the performance clips from the piece were, since the menu wasn't as clear as it could have been, so here are the songs on their own.
Vampire Weekend: "A Punk"
Vampire Weekend: "M79"
Vampire Weekend: "Wolcott"
We also premiered the new Animal Collective video for "Water Curses":
And finally, more videos were added to the archive, including one from the sadly missed Joe Strummer and his Mescaleros for "Johnny Appleseed" and a clip for Boris' recent single "Statement".
