New Music: Santogold: "Your Voice" [MP3]
Santogold is doing well these days-- her self-titled debut album is receiving rave reviews and her eclectic mix of electro, punk rock, dancehall, and anything else that might up the fun quotient has been hailed by some as the future of music. Thing is, she's not just the future, she's also the past. The 1980s are all over her tunes, but, if this unreleased non-album track posted today to RCRD LBL is any indication, she's also got 70s Kingston up her sleeve. "Your Voice", produced by Santogold and J. Hill and mixed by Switch, has the underwater echo of a Black Ark-era Lee Perry production. It's a lazy, lovely yearning tune with bass, horns, drums and bizarre sound effects that could've from a Congos recording session. If Santi White can do this, who knows what else she is capable of.
