Pitchfork.tv: Damon & Naomi: "Within These Walls" [Video Premiere]
Stop endlessly re-checking your e-mail, RSS reader, and social networking accounts for five minutes, OK, jeez. There's an unhurried, technologically unbound beauty to "Within These Walls", the title track from the latest album by ex-Galaxie 500 dream-poppers Damon & Naomi, and director Cedrick Eymenier complements this in a patiently edited video blending intimacy with majesty. The first rays of the morning sun glint over the hills like the guitar-playing of Ghost's Michio Kurihara slices through the album, continuing a collaboration that dates back to 2000's Damon & Naomi With Ghost. The camera hovers lovingly over household details as small as the held breaths and cold places Naomi Yang softly describes, backed by lush strings and Damon Krukoswki's lightly jazzy drumming. "All I have is you in this world," Yang sighs, the lens gradually moving from cobwebs and dust particles to windowpanes and the sleeping outdoor expanse. Of course, within these walls you'll find a couple of flickering computer screens, too.
