Deacon + Girl Talk + Spank Rock = Whartscape Fun
Dan Deacon, Naeem "MC Spank Rock" Juwan, and Gregg "Girl Talk" Gillis, all together? Sounds like a fine notion for a Feed the Animals bonus jam to me. But, much like how last year's Pitchfork Music Festival brought Girl Talk's Clipse-laden remix of Grizzly Bear's "Knife" to life, the stuff mash-ups were made of will get very very real at the Whartscape Festival in Baltimore July 17-20. That's right: Dan Deacon, Naeem Juwan, and Gregg Gillis are forming a supergroup! And it's going to debut at Whartscape.
Promising "all new material jams eternal" in a MySpace bulletin, the illustrious Mr. Deacon notes that "gregg and i have been talking about doing a band together for some time and i'm really excited naeem is going to be a part of it for this rad first birth. hopefully our sick jams turn out sick." How could they not?
As you know, in addition to this set, Dan will be doing one of his very own, plus a take on Ultimate Reality, his collaborative celebration of all things Arnold, with Jimmy Joe Roche. Gregg Gillis will be performing not as Girl Talk, but as Trey Told 'Em, his own collaborative venture with Frank Musarra. And Naeem sure is a trooper, as he's not only due in Baltimore next weekend, but also at Los Angeles' Hard Festival. Tour dates for all three are down below.
And as if all that wasn't enough excitement, Whartscape 2008 will also feature a reunion of beloved Baltimore pranksters Oxes.
