Weezer Announce Tour, Bassist Checks into Hospital

That N'Sync video made it look so glamorous
Apparently, sleeping with half the female population of Massachusetts does not guarantee happiness and sanity. According to the band's website, Weezer's bassist Mikey Welsh, who joined the band a year ago, has checked into a psychiatric hospital in his hometown of Boston. The severity of his condition has not yet been revealed. However, band assistant Karl Koch posted the following message on the band's site:

"We unfortunately still don't know what's wrong with [Mikey], and continue to find it very difficult to find out any more from those who might know. We wish him the very best and we hope he comes back soon."

But the show will go on-- Weezer have hired Scott Shriner to act as a stand-in for Welsh on their upcoming dates, for which they will share the bill with Cold. (Cold?! Cold.) Come October, the guys will dispose of Cold, and continue touring with dignity, just to see if they can still do it. The band has reportedly rehearsed 23 unreleased songs, many of which they'll be playing at these gigs.
