Half of CocoRosie Is Half of Metallic Falcons

So you've seen our reviews of bands like Sunn 0))) and Boris, and you read the New York Times Magazine this weekend, and you're thinking it's time to try to get in touch with your inner headbanger. Problem is, your taste for the harder things in life is in its infancy, and you want something that will make your first steps into the genre pleasant and easy. Fortunately, Metallic Falcons and their self-proclaimed "soft metal" are there for you.

Metallic Falcons are Sierra Casady of CocoRosie and Matteah Baim of the Voodoo-EROS label, which will release the Falcons' debut, Desert Doughnuts, on June 6. Antony, Devendra Banhart, Jana Hunter, and Greg Rogrove (Tarantula A.D.) all guest on the record. According to a press release, the album "is an emotional journey of Dungeons & Dragonsesque proportions," and it's "filled with hand-rolled peyote cigarettes, sticky sage resin, and old carburetors," which we are told is the freak-folk equivalent of bonus features.

Desert Doughnuts:

01 Journey
02 Airships
03 Night Time and Morning
04 Snakes and Tea
05 Desert Cathedral
06 Silent Night
07 Berry Metal
08 After Metal (Sound of Stars)
09 Pale Dog
10 A Heart of Birdsong
11 Misty Song
12 Ocean
13 Disparu
14 Four Hearts

The duo will celebrate the release of Doughnuts with a show the day after the disc hits shelves. In addition to the scheduled performers, "some very, very special surprise guests" are rumored to appear. These tin birds are well connected (just ask about them!), so that could mean anything.
