Wildly imaginative left-field hip hop collective Subtle gets appropriately treated with this wildly imaginative, dreamlike, and eerie video for "The Mercury Craze", from the sextet's latest full-length, the Pitchfork-Recommended For Hero: For Fool (Lex/EMI). The Norwegian/ Japanese SSSR team-- also responsible for a trilogy of previous, award-winning Subtle videos, including "Swan Meat"-- put the piece together, deftly incorporating numerous animation techniques. It's part anime, part mythology, part Munch's Scream, and an absolute head-trip no matter how you look at it-- quite the opposite of subtle.
