Beirut Issues New "Elephant Gun" Single
Like a college junior fresh off a semester abroad in Prague, Beirut's Zach Condon continues to relish his Euro fetish. Not only is the Balkan-inspired tunesmith scheduled to make a trek across the pond for a string of summer dates, but he'll issue the UK-only 7" for the Lon Gisland EP's leadoff track "Elephant Gun" June 25 on 4AD. And it features a take on Jacques Brel's "Le Moribond" on the B-side. (Makes sense-- Condon was big-upping Brel in our recent interview with him.)
Could the other trappings of a Euro-fixation-- a Union Jack flag above the bed, a parade of Oasis records, and an inexplicable fascination with Stella Artois-- be next for Young Master Condon?
Busy at the helm of his upcoming LP The Flying Club Cup, Mr. Condon is letting up a bit on the constant touring that left him winded last spring, with only a few U.S. dates-- all, presently, attached to the Wordless Music Series-- on the docket for September.
