QOTSA's Homme, Massive Attack's 3D on UNKLE LP
Album also features Autolux, members of the Cult, Nada Surf, Eagles of Death Metal, Goon Moon
Four years after the UK release of UNKLE's last full-length-- Never, Never, Land-- Mo' Wax mastermind James Lavelle has revived the revolving-door collective to release a new album and go on tour.Having teased fans with the release of the Night's Temper EP in May, Lavelle will release the third UNKLE album on his own recently formed Surrender All label on July 24 (July 9 in the UK/Europe/Australia and June 20 in Japan).
The album, titled War Stories, features contributions from Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Ian Astbury (the Cult), 3D (Massive Attack), Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), David Catching (Eagles of Death Metal), Autolux, the Duke Spirit, and Jeordie White (aka Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez, also of Goon Moon). War Stories also features the vocal debut of Lavelle himself, and unlike the previous two albums, most of it was played live.
QOTSA producer Chris Goss aided Lavelle in War Stories' production, and 3D painted the album's artwork. Surrender All will release a limited edition of the album with a second disc of War Stories' instrumentals and a 50-page booklet complete with tons of photos. The regular edition of the album will have a still-full-of-photos 32-page booklet.
UNKLE will pave the way for War Stories with the release of first single "Burn My Shadow" on June 25.
Lavelle plans to tour with a full-band setup and as a solo DJ throughout this summer. The first of those dates is a DJ set in Berlin tomorrow (June 15).
