Deerhunter to Open for Smashing Pumpkins!
In a bit of news both inspired and unexpected, Deerhunter-- still, to us, the little band that could-- will link up with recently replenished post-post-grunge (read: arena rock) juggernauts the Smashing Pumpkins for a pair of dates on Billy and company's lengthy North Carolina residency later this month. No word on whether the Corganator's a Bradford fan, but the two bands do both share a jones for My Bloody Valentine and, if memory serves, frocks. Those looking to catch the Deer in a more controlled setting can check them out on the new Believer comp, or on tour with a bunch of comparably cool but significantly less gargantuan acts this summer. Including, like, everybody at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Love you Billy, but Dan Deacon you most certainly ain't.
In other Smashing Pumpkins news, their set at Venice, Italy's Heineken Jammin' Festival over the weekend was canceled due to inclement weather. As was Aerosmith's. The lord giveth, and the lord taketh away.
