Tony Wilson R.I.P.

After a battle with kidney cancer dating back to earlier this year, Anthony "Tony" Wilson has passed away at the age of 57, according to various reports.

Wilson-- a charming TV personality and the founder of both Factory Records and the Hacienda club-- was a longtime fixture in the music scene of first his hometown of Manchester, England, and eventually the nation and world as well. His Factory label-- formed in 1978 and inspired by the burgeoning UK punk scene, particularly a 1976 Sex Pistols show in Manchester-- was responsible for legends such as Joy Division, New Order, and the Happy Mondays, as well as lesser-known but distinctive and crucial artists such as A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column, the Stockholm Monsters, ESG, the Wake, and Section 25.
