Photos: The Roots Picnic [Philadelphia, PA; 06/07/08]
Photos by Matt ZieglerThe very first Roots Picnic turned an already scorching Illadelph Saturday even hotter over the weekend, as those not afraid to break a little sweat turned out at Festival Pier to catch a cache of top-tier acts big up'd by the Roots, as well as no fewer than three sets from the Rising Down crew itself.
Gnarls Barkley, Deerhoof, Diplo (not pictured), Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, the Cool Kids, J*Davey, and Esperanza Spalding rounded out the ?uestlove-emceed event, while DJ Jazzy Jeff swung through to spin for the Roots. Their little hometown hoedown wrapped, the Roots pick up again with Erykah Badu this week, then pepper the weeks to come with headline dates and festival appearances.
