Weezer Reveal "Hootenanny" Details, Radiohead Cover
As we mentioned late last week, beloved geek rock troupe Weezer are busy making plans for their "Hootenanny Tour", in which fans of the band, instruments in hand, will join their heroes in performing Weezer favorites.
Now, via a post on their website and the handy video you'll see below, Rivers and co. have laid out a few more details of the "Hootenanny" on us, and even offered up a little guitar lesson. Take a gander:
So you see, the whole thing is a contest. The first date is today in Phoenix, with the city's own The Edge 103.9 ("Adam All Morning, Alternative Rock All Day") handling the contest. Winners are implored to "bring an instrument (or at least your voice and hands)"-- and any instrument will do, it seems-- to the private locale and prepare those power chords. The performance will be recorded for future airing on the radio station.
The song selection for each gig will more than likely change with every new date, but here's Phoenix's spate: "Pork and Beans", "Island in the Sun", a cover of Radiohead's "Creep", "Say It Ain't So", "El Scorcho", and, of course, "Beverly Hills".
If the prospect of all these limited-capacity Hootenannies has you blue, don't fret: "another, probably bigger Los Angeles 'Hootenanny' is now in the planning stages but wont be happening for a little while," the posting says, and Weezer do plan to hit the road in the States and Japan in the fall.
Weezer Hootenannys:
06-17 Phoenix, AZ
06-19 Portland, OR
06-20 San Francisco, CA
06-21 Seattle, WA
06-23 Los Angeles, CA
