The Hollies:
Moving Finger

Now this is more like it! I wasn't really familiar with Moving Finger. Scanning the track listing, I saw none of the hits that made The Hollies classic rock staples. The liner notes mentioned that this album was recorded after Graham Nash left. I don't even like Graham Nash, but such information is never really a good sign.

Wrong. Moving Finger is a solid collection of post-Beatles pop and folk with pitch- perfect harmonies. The opening number "Survival of the Fittest" (which actually was co-written with Nash) sets the stage for greatness with its lightning drum fills and bendy "such a shame" vocals. Even when the going gets self- indulgent (I'm talking to you, track 12 "Gloria Marigold Swansong"), self -indulgence hasn't sounded so lithe and pretty since. I'd put this album up there with some of the Hollies' best work.
