Shake Your Coconuts (DFA Remix)

If the DFA knows anything it's a) its music history, and b) how to make an ass-shaking dance hit-- two gifts once again combined and furnished to a worthy party on this Junior Senior remix. The original is a crisp, cheeky 2:30-long garage-rocker; the remix is an old-fashioned splice-and-dice job done to expand the track's length and its give it more a dancefloor-friendly sense of dynamics, a la Arthur Baker's recent "Obstacle 1" remix for Interpol. Indeed, the DFA make like Levan or Kerkorian here, grabbing a track that coulda, shoulda, woulda been a party-starter and giving it the necessary makeover. In the process, they shake their Kid Creole & The Coconuts, elongating the breakdown, isolating and highlighting the more instructive vocal snippets ("c'mon, c'mon!", "we want to see you shaking coconuts!"), and adding layers of bass, rhythm, and cowbell.
