Did you really think you could make it this far without experiencing a wave of Afghani-flavored metal? Well, as it happens, former Mr. Bungle and Faith No More guitarist Trey Spruance has been leading his band Secret Chiefs 3 on a crusade through the desert since long before America's second Middle Eastern escapade. "The 3" is but the latest example, taken from the band's new album Book of Horizons, and should hit the spot for those of you who remember the bizarre thrust of Bungle's "Desert Search for Techno Allah". However, this isn't disco, but a cinematic, martial-Morricone-meets-the-Arabian-Knights metal jam, replete with sitar, Eastern percussion and a string melody that could inspire T.E. Lawrence himself-- assuming he was down with the thrash guitar at the end. I could have done with a little more, but this is nice. "
