C'mon C'mon
For a band primarily known as the one with the dude who got stomped by a dude in another band, the urge to succeed is probably strong. While the Von Bondies have floated along on the momentum of the Detroit scene, they've never stood up and made themselves heard. So "C'mon C'mon" is a satisfying piece of turnabout as fair play. The startlingly high production values allow the echoey bass and sparse high-hat to explode into a raucous two minutes of what sounds like a band fighting for its life. The swaggering vocals by Jason Stollsteimer and effortless group dynamic are new wrinkles from a band that formerly seemed distinct only in their seeming apathy towards the music they played. All of it frames typical Bondies lyrics that fade from the hive mind chorus to barely restrained aggression. And all of it works in their favor, distancing them from the garage purist trappings, and acting as permission for the rock band to, y'know, be a rock band. Finally. "
