The Good Ones (Four Tet Remix)

Stop me if you've heard this one before: This Four Tet remix sounds like Garbage. Yeah, that's meant to be an uppercase "G". Create a blind taste test between the intro to the track and the first few seconds of "Only Happy When It Rains", and see what your friends think. Now here's the punchline-- this remix also sounds like the lowercase type of the G-word.

This isn't to say the song being remixed is bad-- more drum-free duos should feature a throaty PJ Harvey clone making time with a quiet John Doe type-- or that the re-mixer is either. But, y'know, replacing dutiful Zoom MRTB3 work with glitzy showy Roland MV8000 beats, and then sandwiching the meat of the song between three minutes of extemporaneous death-disco ambiance isn't a good allocation of resources. Four Tet's efforts here come off as the sort of busy work that'll earn one kudos from the board room and scowls from the cubicles. Those of you with low tolerance for red tape and root cause analysis should stick with the superior original version-- it's already working a solid pseudo-samba dancing beat, it's done in half the time, and it's working just fine. Why break a good thing?
