Blue Bird
As a super general rule of thumb, the Rosebuds' uptempo Kinks shtick (see Make Out) is frequently good, their loungey poolside stuff (see Unwind) less so. "Blue Bird" reconciles things pleasantly enough-- mellow soundtrack rock for the post-twenties set. Maybe married life's starting to suck for this husband-wife duo, maybe not, but the song does well to swap trademark Rosebuds cheer for resignation-turned-hope (literally the thing with feathers). Drums take a back seat but stay urgent, guitar is delayed and sweet, and my sole gripe might actually turn out a plus: During the song's four and a half minutes, nothing ever happens a la Prufrock's "life is very long," but that might just be the point."
