"Outsiders" was by far my favorite track on You Could Have It So Much Better-- mostly due to its strong resemblance to Duran Duran, which is pretty much the measuring-stick by which I judge all music. That dance-pop quality also makes the song highly eligible for remix purposes, and Isolée's icy aesthetic would seem to make him an ideal appointee for the job of teasing out the band's inner "Rio". Instead, the remix largely neuters the Ferd's new wave swagger with a loping tempo, and it relies too much on routine disco-edit reassembly to offer any sort of provocative new context. In contrast to Max Tundra's brilliantly ADHD "Do You Want To" remix, Isolée misreads the group's tightly wound strength, and turns a promising hint at their future into a how-not-to lesson.
