Slits Tradition

Don't call it a nostalgia trip: if this track is any indication, then the return of the Slits has more in common with Wu-Tang, grime, and the Tricky tracks that don't suck than anything involving their former contemporaries not named Mark Stewart. In other words, this is some cavernous, sleazy-sounding stuff, even if Ari Up's pimping some Helen Reddy-esque polemic. Ari strikes a different vocal pose for each verse she raps, including one where she sounds like a burnt-out Dälek. Meanwhile, her haunting coo flutters in the background between the sharp drum-machine beats and the incessant rumbling bass as a group of family and friends chant the chorus, which is about, um, Slits tradition. Of course, "Slits Tradition" proves that there is no such thing as Slits tradition.
