White Stripes to Sell Coca-Cola, Live Tracks
"I've been offered the opportunity to write a song in a way which interests me as a songwriter," White told NME.com. "I certainly wouldn't want a song that I'd already written to be used on a commercial. That seems strange. But to be asked to write something particular along one theme of love in a worldwide form that I'm not really used to appealed to me." Not to get all grammar-Nazi up in here, but the way that came out makes it seem like Jack's not used to worldwide love. Well, he is from Detroit...
"I've written a song and I wrote it really quickly and it's an interesting commercial that's been made," he said. "I was inspired by the commercial."
An ad inspiring more than the urge to buy massive amounts of stuff, masturbate, or destroy one's television? Sounds like something special. We hope Michel Gondry directed it!
When they're not busy being soda stripers, Jack and Meg like to sell concert tickets. They're currently on a short tour of the UK-- while there Jack insists he be called "Three Quid"-- which will be preserved for posterity in a unique way: Each night, the band will make a recording of that show's performance of "The Denial Twist" available for download and purchase through their website. Concertgoers will receive a blank CD with new artwork-- different for each show-- so they can create their own single.
The tour is sold out, but at least you can get a bunch of copies of "The Denial Twist". I'd consider cracking more jokes about selling out, but I don't want to be become the next Jason Von Bondie. At least I know Jack will be busy for the next couple weeks.

The Stripes will finish performing for the year on November 20 in Iceland, then start back up again in Japan in January. Perhaps they will be as sick of "The Denial Twist" as we are by then:

Finally, Jack's journey towards becoming as loopy as Michael Jackson continued last weekend. According to the all-knowing NME.com, he informed the crowd at a London concert that he is to be referred to as "Three Quid" for the remainder of the tour, after taking the stage "in a top hat and carrying a large stuffed bird." Good god, somebody stop this man before it's too late!
