New Music: Andrew Bird: "Imitosis" [MySpace]

"Imitosis", from Andrew Bird's upcoming Armchair Apocrypha, is a reworking of a track called "I" (which, in concert, is sometimes called "Capital I") from his 2003 album Weather Systems. The biggest difference is the song's percussion: "Imitosis" has a Latin beat which, once the strings swoop in, begins to sound something like a tango. Here, Bird compares cellular behavior to human behavior: "What is mistaken for closeness/ Is just a case of mitosis," he sings. Like a lot of his lyrics, it's a little too clever.
