Video: José González: "Down the Line"
Remember the movie Seven? MTV's Subterranean blog has posted the first video from Swedish singer-songwriter José González's forthcoming sophomore album, In Our Nature, and word is this clip is the first in a series about "the sins of humanity." Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman probably didn't tell you, but Cosmo Kramer did: The first deadly sin is being a pig-man.
Directed by frequent Knife collaborator Andreas Nilsson, the video for "Down the Line" follows a porcine person as he rides his bike, looks at waterfalls, writes in the fog on his car window, and eventually acts out some pyromaniacal impulses. At least one of those might be a sin. As for González's new song, it's more of what fans of this Gothenborg-born child of Argentine parents have come to expect since debut album Veneer: melancholy, distinctively voiced acoustic pop. "Don't let the darkness eat you up," González sighs, letting a few strings drone over his percussive strums. Wait, wasn't the pig-man one of the guys who designed the "Space Quest" games?
