New Music: The Pipettes: "Dance and Boogie" / "Baby Just Be Yourself" [Streams]

The two new songs to be included on the North American release of We Are the Pipettes are now up over at the Brighton band's MySpace page. The title of "Dance and Boogie" makes it sound floor-ready, but it's really more of a rollerskaing jam, the pleasingly dinky organ pushing the band with the girl-group roots in the direction of the Bananarama 80s. "Baby Just Be Yourself", a weeper that's a hair too fast for slowdancing, is less special, seeming to aim for dreamy blue velvetisms it can't quite sustain. Still, the Pipettes have done well by taking the song's message to heart: they sound like themselves, and that works.
