As many as 1,500 of James Murphy's friends were on hand earlier this year when LCD Soundsystem played venerable UK venue Manchester Academy. For those of us who couldn't make it, this video from the performance shows LCD Soundsystem performing Sound of Silver instant-classic "All My Friends" with characteristic head-bobbing, eyes-closed fervor. "Where are your friends tonight?" Murphy sings, as he always does on this song, and it's a testament to the Sound of Silver's godhead status we can so easily believe what several years ago would've been mind-blowing: There are thousands and thousands more ready and willing LCD Soundsystem friends not present. The band members backing Murphy carve out the song with precision, keeping the studio version's primary elements while only increasing its intensity. And the kids in the crowd look like there's no place they'd rather be this evening.
