New Music: Flying: "Stains" [Video/MP3]
Brooklyn trio Flying play a swaying, off-kilter kind of twee psych-folk on "Stains", from forthcoming second album Faces of the Night. Both the cutesiness and the trippiness show through in the song's video. Kaleidoscopic effects make for a visual equivalent to the song's wah-drenched guitar riff, but we look through the spaced-out swirls to see a bunch of colorfully costumed kids performing awkward, childish choreography around bright construction-paper cutouts and a houseplant. On the sweet chorus, warmed by glowing synths, the wispily harmonizing boy-girl vocalists are shown in overlapping close-ups. "Look at the faces of the night/ Those old steeples are coming down," they sing. After the group and their dancing friends have rolled and pranced around a little more, it's time for everybody to fall asleep on each other's backs-- whether because it's naptime or because the drugs have worn them out, it's anybody's guess.
