"Daddy O"

Video: Wideboys [ft. Shaznay Lewis]: "Daddy O"

Given the recent attention to Northern England's bassline house music scene-- best described as an updated offshoot of speed garage-- the award-winning, platinum-selling Wideboys, Eddie Craig, and Jim Sullivan, have made a transition from the London-centric, 2-step garage scene of the past and set their sights north. Wideboys remixes of everything from Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" to Souljah Boy's "Crank Dat" to Snoop's "Sensual Seduction" are getting play.

Though some of the Wideboys' original stuff leans a little too heavily on the the girly-girl vocal thing that's often one of bassline's most enjoyable hallmarks, "Daddy-O", featuring the former-All Saint Shaznay Lewis, doesn't make this mistake. The pink-washed video is nothing to look at, but that's OK, because it's really all about that bass. Admittedly, it may not be as grimy as other bassline tracks, and it's arguably straight-up garage. Whatever you want to call it, like T2's monster bassline/garage hit "Heartbroken", it's impossible not to dance to it and all the more impossible to wrench that hook out of your head.
