New Music: Kidz in the Hall [ft. Bun B, Clipse's Pusha T, and Cool Kids]: "Drivin' Down the Block (Remix)" [MP3/Stream]
Not only are Kidz in the Hall no longer presenting themselves as the good-guy hip-hop alternative from 2006's School Was My Hustle, they've even joined up with a couple of rap's best bad guys, Bun B and Clipse half Pusha T. Also: Cool Kids, who'd have been the old Kidz' more likely match. "Drivin' Down the Block", the first single from the New Jersey-Chicago duo's forthcoming The In Crowd, is a bass-heavy cruising jam in the tradition that Bun B's UGK helped establish years earlier, and this posse-cut remix puts even more of an emphasis on rapping, with guests who can more than keep up. Bun B settles into the subject matter so naturally you can almost smell the asphalt, while Pusha T raps about, yup, dealing, but saves room for an Ice Cube pun. Before the Kid(s)z are through, we're wondering why Bo Jackson can't rap-- if he can't, who? If not now, when? Oh wait, I remember, OK. Aw, man, I wish I had a car.
