Pitchfork.tv: May 2: TV Party [ft. David Byrne, Blondie, Mick Jones, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and others] / Diplo / Tuung
You may not have known that cable television existed in 1979, but in New York City that year began a crazy cable access show called "TV Party", and a 2005 documentary on the program by director Danny Vinik is the current "One Week Only" feature. In-studio anarchy is what "TV Party" was all about was all about-- druggies operating the cameras, people like Mick Jones, Iggy Pop, and David Bowie dropping in to say hello, audience members calling in to scream random obscenities. It was a weird and wonderful world, another view of a long-gone downtown New York that still has plenty of treasures to unearth.
Videos added to the archive today include "Percão" by Diplo, featuring Pantera Os Danadinhos, and Tuung's high-production opus "Bullets".
