Pitchfork.tv: White Denim: "Let's Talk About It" [Video]
Clap. Clap. Clap, clap-clap clap clap. Hearse driver at the car wash, yeah! Austin's spastic garage-rockers White Denim shout in new wave-esque phrasings over jagged riffs, fast-talking drums, and a hooky bass line on "Let's Talk About It", the title track from their debut EP, but in the Carlos LoRatta-directed video, Death has other plans for his day off. The video starts about a minute before it should, setting the scene nicely while lingering over details: Your friendly chauffeur across the River Styx standing in front of his vehicle chomping on an apple, the kid writing "wash me" on the back, Death scribbling back "OK." A man of his word now as ever, this driver-slash-Death takes his ride in for a soapy rinse if not a pimping, picking up some air freshener as the band plays. The car wash workers get down to business. The song itself holds on longer than you'd expect, too, each instrument exploring its grimy territory inch by inch, maybe also needing a wash. Make sure to watch till the end, which I'd spoil if only I knew for sure what was going to happen after the final frame.
